Welcome

Welcome to the future home of the Green-Span Project. We are just getting started.

The goal of The Green-Span Project is to create and maintain an open-source, peer-to-peer platform for social networking. Green-span is intended to be an organic solution for contact and reputation management across all forms of Internet communication, with no central point of control or data collection. The underlying paradigm of green-span is that users own their personal data (including personal contact information) and that they are the ones who should profit from its use.

In addition to the usual spam defense systems of white-listing and black-listing of known contacts, and FOAF (friend of a friend) filtering, green-listing allows users to choose some default level of compensation to receive any unknown person wishing to view personal data and/or make contact. They may set this level of compensation as high as they wish, to reduce unwanted contact, but may also easily refund such payments if the contact turns out to be from a known party or anyone who's contact is deemed mutually beneficial.
